The series began in the British Virgin Islands in the late 1980's and continues from my studio in the Caribbean island of Dominica. My book and video ''Notes on the Nude'' gives an insight into the creation of the series from the perspective of the artist and his models.

This early painting of my wife Denise was made in the cabin of our boat while at anchor in the Virgin Islands. It speaks of the release from the creative restrictions of a previous marriage and represents a new lease of life.

There’s not a line or a brush stroke that I would change in this painting of Verlena. It came about by chance at the end of a modelling session for a sculpture. My way of rapidly painting in watercolour is fraught with difficulties. Mistakes cannot be corrected. What goes down stays down.
